I was fortunate to have the opportunity to paint pieces for Deer Duck Bistro, in Auchenflower Brisbane. This fine-dining bistro has recently expanded with a bar. The owner was after portraiture for the entrance door and bathroom door to encapsulate the luxury of the place. After visiting the venue and seeing the existing painting of King George III by Allan Ramsay, I was inspired to paint his wife, Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz's gown, complementing the antiques and Old World style interior.
Standing in an Italian vineyard scene, this painting greets patrons to the modern European restaurant and connects with a previous commission (see below). To portray the luxury of the fine-dining experience, there is gold detailing and the bathroom door painting gentleman wears a golden robe. Wine labels from the bar menu are incorporated in the background.
In 2021, I painted this 3.5 metre Italian vineyard landscape in partnership with Chloe Lethbridge-Salt. This informed the vineyard background of the entrance, connecting the pieces together.
